Handheld upgrades rugged Algiz 10X tablet
Rugged mobile computer maker Handheld Group has upgraded its military-grade Algiz 10X 10-inch tablet, adding a more powerful processor and the Windows 8 operating system.
The Intel quad-core N2930 1.83GHz processor with 2.16GHz boost doubles the tablet’s performance while running at cooler temperatures than the previous N2930 chip. This is good news for those seeking faster startup and operation, and allows for improved software compatibility.
Handheld says the benefits of the new Windows 8.1 Pro platform include easier network connection, data encryption and the ability to access one PC from another. The operating system is downgradeable to Windows 7 for customers who need compatibility with existing systems.
"By using the very latest operating system available from Microsoft, customers can now enjoy quicker startup and operation, increased software compatibility and improved support for touchscreen-based tablets, among other benefits," Handheld director of product management Johan Hed says.
"We have dramatically increased performance levels without sacrificing operating time or mechanical design," Hed concludes. "We have also improved our wireless communication support. Besides 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz, we now support both 802.11ac and 802.11a on 5 GHz. The upgraded Algiz 10X also supports LTE, which provides substantially faster data speeds, both up- and downstream, and increased overall network coverage."
The Algiz 10X is IP65-rated and meets stringent MIL-STD-810G military standards, which means it's protected against dust, water, vibrations, drops and extreme temperatures. It has a large, 10.1-inch touchscreen, weighs 1.3kg and is 32mm thick.
Handheld says that, like all of its rugged PDAs, smartphones and mobile computers, the Algiz 10X is designed for field workers in industries such as construction, forestry, geomatics, logistics, public transportation, utilities, maintenance, mining, military and security.
