Cat is promising more power and increased payloads from its three new C2 series articulated dump trucks, the 24-tonne-rated 725C2 and the 28-tonne 730C2 and 730C2 EJ.

The 725C2 and 730C2 are standard articulated haulers but the 730C2 EJ features a hydraulic ejector to help push material out and boost productivity.

The smaller 725C2 model is powered by a Cat C9.3 ACERT engine capable of 234kW (314hp) and the two larger models have a Cat C13 ACERT pushing out 274kW (367hp). The engines in all models are available in US Tier 2/EU Stage II, Tier 3/Stage IIA or Tier 4 Final/Stage IV emissions configurations.

All models have Cat 6F/1R power-shift transmission, a system that incorporates Cat’s proprietary Advanced Productivity Electronic Control Strategy (APECS) which automatically monitors and adjusts acceleration, ground speed and shift points depending on the operating conditions.

Cat says the C2 models are more structurally robust than their predecessors, with the front frame incorporating box section beams and the rear frame using a four-plate box construction to reduce stress points. Three-point, oil/nitrogen front suspension and walking-beam rear suspension help absorb haul road impact and allow safe high-speed travel.

The trucks’ two-person ROPS/FOPS cabs feature an adjustable air-suspension seat for the operator and a full-sized forward-facing seat for the trainer. A multi-purpose colour LED display provides the driver with critical operating information as well as the feed from the reverse camera when activated.

The trucks have a sloped hood which allows for greater visibility from the cab. The hood can be raised and lowered electronically via a switch in the cab, giving safe access to routine maintenance points. The cab itself can also be tilted forward electronically to provide access to the transmission, drive shaft and hydraulic components. Moving around the truck is safe and easy, Cat says, thanks to an extensive handrail system and slip-resistant surfaces.

The C2 models can be integrated with the Cat Production Measurement system allowing operators to weigh their payload from inside the cab, maximising loads and minimising costly overloading. The trucks can also be connected to the Product Link system, allowing owners to monitor valuable machine data such as location, fuel consumption and operating hours.
