Black Moth topVIEW gives operators aerial visibility

An imaging system that gives heavy machinery operators an aerial view of the vehicle’s surroundings has been released by Brisbane-based industrial vision and communication technology specialist Black Moth.

The Atlas vision system stitches together images of the vehicle’s surroundings from a series of four smartMX-180 IP HD cameras placed around the vehicle and displays them inside the cab as a continuous, 360-degree image.

The system also has a fifth camera that can be attached for any machine-specific application such as on the bucket of a loader or monitoring the lift movements of a crane.

Now the topVIEW upgrade takes this visibility a step further, allowing operators to gain an aerial view of the area around their machine.

Black Moth says this allows the operator to determine if it is safe to set the vehicle in motion via a single glance at the display.

The footage from the cameras is then stored on Black Moth’s TigerMX-5, a rugged server installed on the machine.

This data can then be transferred via Wi-Fi or 3G/4G mobile networks back to the office.

The TigerMX-5 contains two computer modules, meaning one module can operate the imaging system and the other can run any additional site software simultaneously.

“At Black Moth our No. 1 priority is to help our clients to keep people safe around moving machines,” Black Moth sales director Tony Clear says.

“TopVIEW is the latest step in our continuous and rapid development process to provide operators with a ‘one glance’ tool to vastly improve the safe operation of their heavy vehicles … combined with the connectivity and integration possibilities of the Atlas system, Black Moth offers significant benefits for operators and companies alike.”
