Hitachi announces ZAXIS-5 series excavators

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) has announced the local release of the new ZAXIS-5 series excavators.

The ZAXIS-5 series (also known as the ZX-5 series) contains 13 new models in total, ranging from the 14.5-tonne rated ZX130 to the massive 85-tonne ZX890. Hitachi says the focus of the new series was to maximise performance, operator comfort, efficiency, reliability and productivity.

The ZX-5 models feature Hitachi’s TRIAS hydraulic system, which increases machine responsiveness while reducing fuel consumption and engine wear by distributing hydraulic fluids more evenly.

“Equipped with the innovative TRIAS or redesigned HIOS III hydraulic systems, the ZX-5 series will provide higher yields with better fuel consumption compared to the previous model,” HCA sales general manager Frank Gili says.

“The result is simply lower fuel costs, with no compromise on productivity, which over time makes a big difference to total cost of ownership.”

All excavators in the ZX-5 range are fitted with engines configured to meet US Tier 4i/EU Stage IIIB emissions requirements. A muffler filter has also been fitted to help capture air pollutants.

The operator’s cab has received an overhaul as well, with a full ROPS and an adjustable air-suspension seat. The centre console has a seven-inch, multi-function LCD monitor which displays critical machine health information. The monitor and all switches have been grouped together within easy reach of the operator’s right hand.

“The seat and console can now slide further back, offering expanded leg space and a more comfortable working environment for the operator,” Gili says.

“The console on the right side has been ergonomically redesigned. The new heated air suspension seat is perfectly suited for colder temperatures and minimises operator fatigue by absorbing vibration during operation.

“This is seriously impressive stuff for the operator,” he adds, “and it’s all about their relationship with the machine.”

Fuel filters, engine oil filters and air cleaners can all be replaced with ease from the ground level. The machine’s air-conditioning condenser is also easily accessible for cleaning.
