JCB releases compact version of 3CX backhoe loader
JCB’s new compact version of its popular 3CX backhoe loader has arrived on Australian shores, destined for use in cramped construction sites with limited space.
At just 1.9m wide, 2.74m high and with a 5.8m turning circle, the little backhoe can deliver the same versatility, productivity and ease of use of the 3CX but with greater manoeuvrability, JCB says.
The company says the 3CX series combines the digging power of a mini excavator with the lifting capabilities of a wheeled loading shovel.
The unit’s 4-in-1 bucket, plus a range of available attachments such as pallet forks and sweeper collectors make the 3CX compact suitable for any number of jobs on site. An optional quick-hitch makes attachment changeover even faster.
The unit is powered by a 55kW JCB Diesel by Kohler engine configured to meet US Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IIIB emissions standards. The engine drives all four wheels through a three-speed hydrostatic transmission capable of a top speed of 40km/h.
With a load height of 2.98m and a maximum forward reach at full height of 1.211m, the 3CX can easily load road-going trucks despite its compact size.
"With the 3CX Compact we are delivering a real master of all trades," JCB Construction Equipment Australia (JCB CEA) national product manager Glenn McLeod says.
"It’s a machine that is suitable for operation in road maintenance, metropolitan construction, utility work, or any task that requires maximum performance in a compact package."
The operator’s cab has an adjustable air-suspension seat, as well as heating and cooling as standard. The controls in the cab have been modelled on those of an excavator, reducing operator effort.
The 3CX compact, like the majority of JCB machines, is connected to JCB’s LiveLink telematics tracking software. This allows fleet managers to monitor machine performance and productivity remotely and make any decisions quickly based on real-time information.
