Ditch Witch has announced it has upgraded the popular JT100 and JT100 All Terrain horizontal directional drills to meet Tier 4 emissions standards.
Powered by 194kW Cummins diesel engines, the two drill models are designed for boring holes to install pipes and other underground utilities. The JT100 models can produce up to 16kNm of torque, and Ditch Witch says they’re ideal for challenging or long bores and installation of large-diameter pipes.
“As the demand for underground construction projects continues to rise, operators have to drill in more difficult terrain and soil conditions than before,” Ditch Witch senior product manager Seth Matthesen says.
“To this end, the upgrades to the JT100 and JT100 All Terrain drills provide the job site solutions to drill faster and more effectively, while reducing emissions.”
Ditch Witch used the upgrade as an opportunity to tweak a number of other factors on the JT100 series. An exclusive dual-pivot drill frame allows for a steeper angle of entry without the need to raise the tracks off the ground, which improves stability and overall operator comfort.
The drills weigh-in at just over 21 tonnes and measure 9.35m by 2.57m. Heavy-duty anchor systems eliminate the need for expensive supporting equipment, reducing project costs and setup time.
Both models have a fully-enclosed cab with instrument panel gauges and a full-colour LCD display providing operators with critical machine information.
Tinted windows provide greater visibility and the front window provides a clear view of the tool joint when making up and breaking out pipes.
An ergonomically-designed, fully adjustable air-suspension seat provides the operator with support for long hours working.
