Handheld launches Algiz 8X rugged tablet

Swedish rugged mobile computer and tablet manufacturer Handheld Group has launched the new Algiz 8X ultra-rugged tablet computer.

Handheld says the new model has been engineered for field workers who require a powerful, portable computer for mobile tasks.

The Algiz 8X has an 8-inch projective capacitive touchscreen that’s ultra-bright and designed for outdoor use. The tablet PC offers a dual-band WLAN connection as well as LTE and comes pre-loaded with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB version.

The tablet is powered by an Intel Pentium N3710 processor, with 4GB of DDR3L RAM on board. Storage is handled by a 128GB solid state drive and the device has ports for two USB3.0 connections, a micro HDMI, micro SDXC and micro SIM connections. The mobile computer can also be connected to DC power.

Handheld says the device is ‘ultra-rugged’ and the touchscreen is made from chemically treated glass manufactured to meet US military ‘ruggedness’ standard MIL-STD-810G.

The glass has been extensively tested for durability, with Handheld dropping a 64-gram steel ball on the tablet 10 times from a height of 1.2m.The device is also built to withstand extreme temperatures, and is able to operate between -20 degrees to 60 degrees Celsius.

“The new Algiz 8X is the most compact and ergonomic Windows tablet we have ever developed,” Handheld director of product management Johan Hed says.

“We’ve pushed the limits of modern field technology with this product, fulfilling customers’ needs for powerful computing, mobility and outstanding screen performance and battery life. We made no compromises.”

Other features on the Algiz 8X include full GPS/GLONASS connectivity and rear-facing 8MP camera with an LED flash.
