The new machines making their debut at the huge event were the HB365LC-3 hybrid excavator, the PC170LC-11 hydraulic excavator and the D51 EX/PX-24 dozer.

The new models are available immediately in the United States, but word on an Australian release is yet to be confirmed.

In total, Komatsu had 26 machines on display including ten excavators, seven dozers, four wheel loaders, three dump trucks, a motor grader and a forklift.

In addition to the new equipment on display, Komatsu was also showcasing its Smart Construction suite of equipment and services, including the intelligent machine control (IMC) system.

Komatsu HB365LC-3 dozer

HB365LC-3 hybrid excavator

The HB365-3 hybrid excavator is a 32-tonne designed for reduced fuel consumption and better emissions. The excavator has a fully electric swing system, with an electric swing motor that captures swing deceleration energy that would normally go unused and stores it in an ultra-capacitor to be used for swing acceleration.

The hydraulic power normally needed to run the swing system can now be used for boom, arm or bucket power, greatly reducing fuel use.

Komatsu says the HB365LC-3 can drop fuel consumption by up to twenty percent while maintaining or exceeding operating performance compared to non-hybrid excavators in the same class.

PC170LC-11 hydraulic excavator

The PC170LC-11 excavator is a 17-tonne, compact, all-purpose construction machine designed to deliver maximum power in a smaller excavator.

The excavator is powered by a 90kW Tier 4 Final diesel engine, yet it can be transported on a, 18-tonne tag trailer.

"This machine has power beyond its size, yet is light enough to be transported on a 40,000 lb. tag trailer," Komatsu America product manager Andrew Earing says.

"From digging basement foundations, to larger municipality work, this machine has a wide range of versatility."

Komatsu D51PX24 dozer

D51 EX/PX-24 crawler dozer

Komatsu says the D51 EX/PX-24 is among the most versatile of all Komatsu dozers and provides up to thirteen percent less fuel consumption than its predecessor thanks to its electronically controlled transmission and Tier 4 Final engine.

The new model features a high-capacity dozer blade with a wear-resistant moldboard that can increase production levels by up to 15 percent.

"The D51EX/PX-24 is a versatile machine, at home on jobsites from landscaping to site prep, as well as highway projects where you’re sculpting on and off ramps," Komatsu America product manager Jonathan Tolomeo says.

"It can do the nimble jobs required of a small dozer, but also move serious dirt."
