Topcon updates 2D machine control system

Topcon Positioning Group has announced an update to its entry-level 2D machine control system for excavators, the X-52 system.

“The X-52 system features the all-new MC-X1 controller, which offers compatibility with all brands and models of excavators,” Topcon construction product management director Kris Maas says.

“Operators with limited exposure to machine control systems will find the system intuitive and very easy to use. Its reliable and rugged TS-i3 tilt sensors detect the precise positioning of the boom, stick and bucket at all times.”

The X-52 system is an automated machine control system that displays grade information in 2D, eliminating the GPS requirement of more advanced systems. It uses a ruggedised laser receiver combined with tilt sensors placed along the bucket to keep operators on grade.

The system uses the Windows CE operating system and the device has two USB ports and an Ethernet connection point.

Operators have the ability to create, cut and check complex designs from inside the excavator cab. The system is also designed to pair with Topcon’s GX-55 touchscreen control box to simplify use.

The X-52 has been designed to be fully upgradeable to a 3D GNSS control scheme for when GPS location and extreme precision are required.

“Later this year the X-52 will be upgradeable to a full 3D system, which allows it to expand along with business needs,” Maas says.

“The X-52 not only allows operators to work faster and with better accuracy, but also promotes a safer work site by keeping grade checkers out of the trenches.”
