JCB Teleskid combines skid steer loader and telescopic handler
JCB has introduced the world’s first skid steer loader with a telescopic boom, the Teleskid, and says the new machine can reach 60 percent further forward than other skid steers on the market.
The Teleskid is available in both wheeled and tracked configurations. On top of the improved forward reach, the Teleskid is also able to dig below its chassis to a depth of around one metre. The Teleskid also has a reach height 8 percent higher than other skid steers.
JCB says the Teleskid’s value is in the versatility of functions it can perform.
"The JCB Teleskid can do the work of four machines - a telescopic handler, masted forklift, compact loader and a skid steer, all in one easily-serviced machine," JCB chief innovation and growth officer Tim Burnhope says.
"Through innovation this machine will surpass the expectations of our customers as the world’s first skid steer and compact track loader with a telescopic boom,"
"The JCB Teleskid can reach further forward and lift higher and dig deeper than any other skid steer," Burnhope adds.
The JCB Teleskid will be the only skid steer available that combines vertical and radial lift capabilities. The Teleskid has an automated bucket levelling system that allows operators to set and maintain bucket level throughout the boom’s range of movement.
The Teleskid is powered by a 55kW Tier 4 Final JCB Ecomax engine, which JCB says provides high torque at low RPM. The enlarged cabin features joystick controls connected to JCB’s myCHOICE software which allows operators to customise joystick sensitivity. The single-boom design of the Teleskid also gives operators 270 degrees of visibility around the machine.
A large rear service door provides access to daily maintenance points and the engine bay. The entire cab can also be tilted forward for access to more hard-to-reach areas, without raising the boom.
It's not known at this stage if or when the Teleskid will make it to Australia.
