Bosch Blue GWS 18V-125 SC angle grinder connects to your phone

The new Bosch Blue GWS 18V-125 SC 18-volt angle grinder has a unique feature we haven’t seen before – a Bluetooth interface that lets you access the tool’s functions via a smartphone or tablet.

This feature lets you receive updates on the GWS 18V-125 SC’s performance as well as tips for troubleshooting in real-time. For instance, if the angle grinder shuts down due to overheating, your smartphone will tell you the reason and what you can do to fix the problem.

Engineered in Germany for heavy-duty grinding applications, the $429 cordless angle grinder is powered by a high-performance brushless EC motor, which Bosch says gives it 35 percent more power and up to 100 percent longer runtime compared to the previous model.

The new 2.8kg model features what Bosch says is the world’s first Drop Control system – an integrated sensor that detects if the tool has been dropped and switches off the machine immediately when it hits the ground.

Other features worth noting are: a KickBack Control which shuts the tool off when the grinding/cutting wheel is jammed; an Intelligent Brake System which stops the tool disc from rotating in less than 2 seconds after switching the power off; Restart Protection which prevents a restart of the machine in the case the battery is empty or replaced and the switch is still in the On position; Soft Start to avoid sudden kick-backs to the user; and a wide-spread LED work light.

Once the tool is connected tool to your smartphone or tablet you can get notified if the Restart Protection, KickBack Control or Drop Control functions are activated.

In addition, Mobile Alerts and Warnings provide you with status updates and advice on how to solve issues when there is motor overheating, electronic failure or low battery Levels

The Tool Customisation feature allows you to control the pre-select soft start setting, LED work light power (brightness and timer settings), user Interface (brightness and timer settings) and setting resets switch.

And, finally, you get access to enhanced tool information including:

  • Tool name: machine type, serial number, manufacturing date and baretool number
  • Tool specs: all technical date of the tool
  • Tool usage: shows total runtime and numbers of features activated
  • Easy service information and location of any spare parts required
  • Simple planning of service intervals with shown tool runtime

Bosch says the GWS 18V-125 SC 18-volt angle grinder is ideal for metal manufacturers, maintenance professionals, miners, construction workers and farmers, and can be used for grinding steel, stainless steel, cast iron and welding seams, for cutting various materials and for removing rust.
