Liebherr launches new Stereoloaders

Liebherr has launched its new L514 and L518 ‘Stereoloaders’, wheel loaders with articulated stereo steering systems, which will begin commercial production later in the year.

The company says the new loaders are built to be as versatile as possible and are particularly suited to today’s cramped urban construction sites. The key feature of the Stereoloaders is the stereo steering system, which combines articulated steering with a steerable rear axle.

The result is a significantly reduced turning circle, which Liebherr says is up to 10 degrees tighter than a machine with conventional steering.

The reduced steering angle also increases stability, and as a result the Stereoloaders can move heavier loads than other loaders in its size class.  The Stereoloaders’ engines are installed at the rear of the machine which also assists stability by acting as a natural counterweight.

The loaders’ versatility is further increased with Z-bar linkage which provides maximum force in all applications. The Z-bar design ensures a high breakout force in lower lift ranges while still providing a high lifting force in the upper ranges. This means the Stereoloaders can be used for a greater variety of tasks.

Both the L514 and the L518 are powered by 78kW diesel engines configured to Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The models are also available as ‘speeder’ versions that are capable of reaching speeds of 40km/h.

Liebherr has redesigned the Stereoloaders’ cab, giving operators a bit more legroom. The cab’s door opens through 180 degrees and all operating levers are integrated into the fully-adjustable drivers’ seat.

Oversized windows and a compact engine hood give the operator increased visibility around the machine, as well as a better view of the attachment.
