Holden has announced the Colorado is entering the new SuperUtes ECB Series which is a production-based category for dual or twin cab utes with turbocharged diesel engines and rear wheel drive.

The SuperUte Series has been designed by the Supercars organisation and replaces the current Holden vs Ford V8 Ute Series.

In announcing its support for the new competition, Holden has released the first official renderings of the Colorado SuperUte.

Engineered by GM Design Australia, the racing Colorado features a roll cage, competition-standard wheels and tough racing stance as well as the iconic lion logo.

“SuperUtes is an exciting new racing series and supporting Australian motorsport has been an important part of Holden’s heritage, so we are delighted to homologate Colorado for the series,” GM Holden general manager – brand, media and sponsorship Emma Pinwill says.

“Colorado has been engineered to handle anything thrown at it by our customers, from inner city and suburban roads to rural highways, dirt roads, and off-road.

“The race track is no different and we are confident Colorado will carry on Holden’s winning tradition,” Pinwill continues.

Engine power in the SuperUte Series is to be strictly limited to 340bhp (253.5kW) to maintain parity amongst the brands and a minimum weight requirement of 1800kg applies to all models.

To further ensure parity and to contain costs, Supercars has mandated a range of control components including the pedal box, ECU, gearbox, rear axle assembly, brakes, tyres, wheels, springs and dampers.

“Holden has been such an integral part of Supercars rich history,” Supercars CEO James Warburton says.

“So it goes without saying that we are delighted to welcome it to the SuperUtes ECB Series.

“With official testing having commenced last week and six models approved for racing, the SuperUtes Series will commence in 2018 with a very strong field and what will be great racing,” Warburton adds.
