Komatsu SmartConstruction is billed as an ‘end-to-end solution’ for the construction industry and uses a range of integrated hardware and software to assist with each construction phase.

The SmartConstruction system covers critical steps in a project’s development, from initial site survey and design, through to construction machinery control, machine interconnectivity, project progress reviews and ‘as-built’ information for future reference.

"With these new technologies, we are now able to provide an end-to-end solution for our customers across construction, quarrying and mining," Komatsu Australia technology solution manager Aaron Marsh says.

"SmartConstruction builds on our industry-leading expertise in machine management through our Insite fleet management centre, Komtrax remote monitoring service, along with our highly innovative iMC – intelligent Machine Control – offerings, which are currently available in dozers and excavators."

The Komatsu system provides a UAV drone service, covering initial site survey, cut/fill or stockpile calculations, ongoing progress tracking and site logistics.

SmartConstuction also includes a range of 3D data services including conversion of 2D and 3D data files into formats suitable for machine control, as well as 3D design consultancy and development.

Komatsu’s Komconnect cloud-based service then gathers the various survey, design, construction, machine control and project progress data in one place for easy reference and cross-checking.

The SmartConstruction system also offers a variety of support services such as remote monitoring, remote file transfer, operator training, assistance with 3D design, troubleshooting and machinery servicing.

"We are building on these technologies with the introduction of our drone-based survey and site management technology and now our cloud-based Komconnect information management offering," Marsh says.

Komatsu says that it can offer SmartConstruction customers full support and training through its team of technology solution experts.

"Our TSEs will be working across all levels with our customers; owners and management, surveyors, engineers, site project supervisors and managers, operators and maintenance crews," Marsh says.
