  • Priced from $26,990 (S6 variant)

  • 330Nm torque

  • 2.5-tonne braked towing capacity

The new ute, which is available through Mahindra’s local subsidiary Mahindra Automotive Australia, features refreshed outer body styling, a new six-speed transmission, greater turbo-diesel power and a redesigned interior.

The original Mahindra PikUp was introduced to Australia in 2007 and has since gone on to sell well across the nation. The new-generation PikUp is available in two specifications – the value-focused 4×2 S6 single-cab ute and the SUV-inspired 4×4 dual-cab S10 variant.

“We have been here in business for over a decade with a local Mahindra Subsidiary and on-ground team to focus on needs and aspirations of the consumers and to build our offerings,” Mahindra international operations head Joydeep Moitra says.

“For the new Mahindra PikUp, a six-month test schedule was carried out in Australia and concluded in August 2017, clocking up over 80,000 local kilometres. This input has helped create a Mahindra PikUp perfect for local conditions. This is a testimony of our commitment to developing products for the Australian market.”

Mahindra says the new PikUp has significant enhancements over the previous generation, including a 2.2-litre 103kW turbo-diesel enginbe that produces around 330Nm of torque. The PikUps have a braked towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes.

Inside the cabin, the PikUp has received a number of upgrades including new fabric upholstery, an MP3/CD/Radio unit and, in the flagship S10 variant, a 6-inch touchscreen with reversing camera and satellite navigation.

When it comes to safety, features like hill descent control, ESC, ABS, EBD, roll-over mitigation, airbags, crash protection crumple zones and a collapsible steering column are standard across the range.

“Strengthening our commitment to safety and comfort, we have added head rests and three-point lap sash seat belts for all seats along with two ISOFIX anchors in the rear seat with three top tether points for all double cab models,” the company says.

A number of accessories are available for the PikUp through Mahindra’s Genuine Factory Accessory program including tow bars, galvanised steel and colour-coded steel trays, steel bull bars, fibreglass snorkels, canvas seat covers and carpet floor mats.
