Cat intros 336 and 336 GC excavators

Caterpillar has revealed two new excavator models in its 36-tonne size class.

Cat says the two new models – the 336 and 336 GC – increase operating efficiency, lower fuel and maintenance costs, and improve operator comfort over previous models.

The Cat 336 offers the most power and lift capacity of the two models, while the 336 GC is a lower-cost, lighter-duty version that delivers maximum productivity at the lowest price.

The next generation excavators feature a range of new technology designed to boost productivity including Cat’s 2D grade system that provides operators with guidance for the depth, slope and horizontal distance to grade. The Grade Assist function then automates boom, stick and bucket movements to keep you on grade with single-lever control.

The excavators also feature the E-Fence function, which physically prevents the excavator from moving outside operator-defined set points. This is particularly useful when working around structures or near traffic.

Greater fuel efficiency is achieved thanks to the new automated ‘Smart Mode’ that matches engine and hydraulic power to digging conditions, and engine speed is automatically lowered when there is no hydraulic demand.

Inside the cab, the excavators come with keyless push-button start, large standard 203mm touchscreen monitor with jog dial keys for control and sound-supressed ROPS structures to improve comfort and safety.

The cab sits on a new viscous mount that Cat says reduces cab vibration by up to 50 per cent. The cab also has a Bluetooth integrated radio with USB ports for connecting and charging phones. Automatic climate control maintains internal cab temperature settings, regardless of external ambient temperatures.
