Cat says the 950 GC is a general purpose loader with low operating costs combined with proven Caterpillar components that include heavy-duty frames, Cat Z-bar linkage, Cat Performance Series buckets, fuel-efficient Cat C7.1 engine, powerful load-sensing hydraulics and an air-conditioned cab with intuitive controls.

The loader is well-suited to stockpiling, load-and-carry work, hopper charging and truck loading. On construction sites, the 950 GC excels at tasks such as site preparation, backfilling, medium duty pipe handling and general cleanup.

The 950 GC is powered by a 170kW Cat C7.1 engine configured to meet US Tier 3 emissions requirements and features a redesigned fuel-injection system. An automated Engine Idle Management System uses an on-demand electronically controlled variable-speed cooling fan to optimise fuel efficiency while simultaneously lowering sound levels.

Cat says the Z-bar linkage on the 950 GC provides ‘aggressive digging capabilities, high breakout forces, and lift and reach capability to competently handle a wide range of loading applications.’

Powering the loader linkage is a load-sensing hydraulic system, which provides a fast, powerful response that allows for combined lift and tilt movements, while also conserving engine horsepower. This saves fuel and reduces heat by creating only the hydraulic flow and pressure actually required to perform the task at hand.

Inside the operators’ cab, a cloth-covered mechanical-suspension seat is paired with low-effort, pilot-operated implement controls. Cat says the 950 GC controls have been designed with the operator in mind and are simple and easy to operate. An interface panel display contains five analog-like gauges, coloured indicator lights and an LCD screen, all within easy view of the operator for safe and ergonomic use.

Hydraulic and electrical service centres provide ground-level access to grouped service points, enhancing the convenience and safety for those performing routine maintenance. Large gull-wing side panels and a tilt-up rear grill provide easy access to filters and the machine’s Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS) ports, which can be used to collect circulating-oil samples for analysis, providing a method for regularly checking on machine health.
