With three new excavators and a compact track loader, Japanese manufacturer Takeuchi’s new range of products offer a series of new options to local customers.

Distributor Semco Equipment chief executive Satch Santilli says better lift capacity and improved creature comforts are on offer across the range.

The new 1.7 tonne TB217R is perfect for operators looking for an excavator with a short-reduced tail swing, he says, with the counterweight lifted higher and closer to the unit than the prior model, the TB216.

"It’s making sure you have got the maximum lift capacity… what Takeuchi have done is brought the weight in, lifted it up so the lift capacity is fine but it is still a compact machine," he says.

Semco says the model will be idea for contractors who may be familiar with the Takeuchi TB215 and TB216 models – though this one has a longer undercarriage and a greater reach, with a 1,130mm arm, 4,000mm maximum reach and a maximum dig depth of 2,390mm.

Also built heavier machine for greater ground stability, the machine is perfect for work on narrow-access sites, he adds.

On the other side of the market, the new 7-tonne TB370 excavator fills a gap in the market by offering users a range of options generally only available on a 20-tonne machine, Semco says.

"This model will appeal to operators of 5.5 tonne machines who are looking for a machine that satisfies the road transport regulation limits while providing a flexible 7-tonne machine," the company says.

The first of Takeuchi’s ‘3-Series’ excavators, the model delivers 120 litres per minute high flow auxiliary output with adjustable flow and pressure and a retractable fuel transfer pump.

Its cab is spacious and comfortable, with a heated air suspension seat, 8-inch multi-function LCD dash panel with touch screen, a 270-degree camera, OPG level 2 roof guard and a high-performance LED night lighting kit.

Also new to the Australian market is the TB257FR, offering Full Rotation – which enables the excavator to load a truck behind it, with the boom parked up the side.

The new model replaces the popular TB153FR model, with a 3 tonne, 5 tonne and 8 tonne model in a range which Santilli says is very popular for tight work.

"A good example of the use of that is, doing roadwork, you only need to close one lane. You can have the truck behind the excavator, instead of the truck on the side of the excavator, which is a big feature on those models," he says.

With a six tonne operating weight, the Tier 4 excavator has a 53hp (39kW) engine that produces a 32 per cent increase in power output and a 19 per cent increase in traction force over the previous model.

On top of the unique side-to-side boom, the unit has a 105 litres per minute high flow auxiliary output, a retractable fuel transfer pump and an updated spacious cab with an integrated multi-function LCD dash panel, OPG level 2 roof guard and an LED night lighting kit.

The new TL8R-2 compact track loader features larger and wider tracks and a quieter engine, a more comfortable cabin and improved controls, and instrumentation similar to the other recently released TL10V-2 and TL12V-2 and TL12R-2 models.

Rounding out a series of upgrades to Takeuchi’s compact track loader range, the TL8R-2 design features a wide 400 mm quiet track design with flotation tread, much like the new TL10V-2.

Another feature found on the TL8R-2 is creep mode with auto shift that enables more precise travel control when using some attachments, a hydraulic hitch, excavator style stowable sliding front door, updated spacious cab with automotive style interior, integrated multi-function LCD dash panel with reverse camera, OPG level 2 roof guard and a powerful LED night lighting kit.

An optional 128lpm high flow is also available.
