Substantial improvements have been made to the TA400 and TA300

Over the last six years under the ownership of Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), Terex Trucks has been reborn.

The Volvo Group has invested $64 million in the company, making substantial improvements to the quality and performance of the TA400 and TA300, as well as heavily investing in the factory, systems, employees, distribution network and aftermarket services.

And it’s not stopping there – Volvo has committed to spend more than $18 million on improvements over the next two years, reinforcing the fact that the trucks are here to stay.

Back in 2014, Volvo CE started an ongoing product renewal program that has seen the launch of a new generation of Terex Trucks ADTs.

A key change is a new drop-box on the TA400 – which now has heavier-duty parts as well as better lubrication lines and materials to improve durability. It also has two stage gearing for tailored performance in all haul conditions, whether you need severe traction or high speed.

There’s also a new transmission on the TA300, with eight forward gears and four reverse gears, which helps to deliver a 5 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency, a 5km/h increase in speed to 55km/h, an extended 4,000 hours oil change period and enhanced performance when compared with the previous model.

All of this means that customers can be more productive, achieving faster cycle times, lower cost per tonne and reduced carbon emissions.

The hydraulic system on the trucks has also been upgraded – magnetic suction filters reduce the risk of component failure from environmental contamination, while improved over-pivot hose routing boosts performance in severe working

Steering cylinder cushioning has been improved too, making operators more comfortable and reducing stress on components.

Hydraulic oil replacement intervals have been extended to 4,000 hours, with the TA400 transmission oil change now at 6,000 hours, helping to reduce operating costs.

The TA400 and TA300 also boast a new aesthetic as well as better engine enclosures, with increased hood strength and flexibility, new locators for stress-free opening and closing, and improved headlamps – increasing durability and safety.

Work has also been done to enhance life for the operator, with upgraded instrumentation, controls, layout, cab-sealing, heat-shielding and a high performing HVAC system – all increasing operator comfort, safety and productivity.

Additionally, the introduction of telematics is helping owners to protect their trucks by monitoring location, performance, productivity and maintenance needs.

For the Australian market, the TA400 and TA300 are fitted with a fuel-efficient Tier 2 engine to meet local emission requirements. However, the trucks can be fitted with a globally emission compliant engine that meets the requirements of EU and North American legislation without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

This is achieved via the latest generation selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, combined with exhaust gas regeneration (EGR) and a variable geometry turbo (VGT).

"Because the articulated dump truck is the only product Terex Trucks develops, we’re able to focus all our attention on this machine – and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing over the last few years," says Lee Irving, regional business manager for APAC/Oceania at Terex Trucks, based out of Perth.

"We’ve listened to our customers and, with the help of their feedback, they arenow reaping the rewards of these investments and enjoying lower operational costs, higher uptime levels, fuel efficiency savings, extended service intervals, faster fault detection, top quality customer service and industry-leading parts availability.

In addition, our factory approved parts are covered by one of the most comprehensive warranty agreements in the industry – two years or 6,000 hours, whichever comes first."

Since April 2017, Terex Trucks has partnered with construction equipment supplier Porter Group to exclusively represent the company throughout Australia. The Porter Group supplies leading construction equipment brands through sales and hire throughout Oceania.

"With all the investments and improvements that have happened under Volvo’s ownership, Terex Trucks is now producing great ADTs," says

Michael Carter, national sales manager for Porter Equipment Australia.

"They are robust, reliable, powerful, and they can handle whatever terrain and conditions you throw at them. These days they are a bit like a best kept secret though – people don’t realise how much the trucks have changed over the last few years, but when they test one of the latest generation models they never look back. We’ve got customers using them in a variety of applications like general construction work, demolition jobs, quarrying, recycling and earthmoving – and feedback is extremely positive.

"A lot of our customers say they put the Terex Trucks ADTs on the most difficult part of the job site, where the inclines are steep, or conditions are slippery or muddy – other brands can struggle in these conditions. They like that the
trucks are strong, good value for money, simple to operate and easy to maintain."
Australia is a strong market for articulated dump trucks, with more than 300 machines sold annually.

"Porter Group has helped us to relaunch the new and improved Terex Trucks over the last few years and developed our sales and service in Australia – and now we’re keen to expand this further," concludes Lee.

"Australia is a key market for Terex Trucks, and we’re committed to growing our business here, reaching new customers and working with Porter Group to deliver an even better service.

Like Terex Trucks, the Porter Group prides itself on excellent customer service and has extremely high standards.

Together, we want to show customers that Terex Trucks has come a long way over the last few years, and with the latest generation machines, there has never been a better time to invest in a Terex Trucks ADT."
