Kobelco unveils extra heavy-duty excavator

Kobelco has unveiled its latest extra heavy-duty excavator, the SK380XDLC-10, which has been designed to withstand extreme work environments throughout Australia.

At nearly 38 tonnes, the SK380XD-10 is the heaviest extra heavy duty excavator in its class, Kobelco says

The release of the SK380XDLC-10 follows the launch of Kobelco’s first extra heavy-duty excavator in the XD Series – the SK500XDLC-10.

Kobelco says the new SK380XDLC-10 has been built with durability in mind and is ideal for operation in a range of industries, including quarry and aggregates, subdivision and underground utilities, and road infrastructure.

At 37.7 tonnes, the excavator is the heaviest in its class.

Kobelco Construction Machinery Australia (KCMA) general manager of product, Mark Johnson, says the hopes for the SK380XD are high.

“The XD Series is an exciting evolution in Kobelco’s large heavy excavator product offering, setting a new benchmark for machine durability and wear guarding in the 35-tonne class,” says Johnson.

“The new SK380XD is the result of Kobelco’s continuous pursuit of being a leader in excavator design and durability – it’s engineered for the most extreme environments around the world.

“It also builds on Kobelco’s excellent reputation for machine reliability, taking it to a new level by providing a factory installed, comprehensive set of structural reinforcements – not to mention class-leading digging performance and fuel efficiency.

“The result is a machine that is the perfect choice for quarry work, infrastructure contractors, and civil construction.”

Heavy duty

Designed for tough conditions, the SK380XD has a robust machine body with additional reinforcements to key areas of stress such as the boom, arm, upper body and undercarriage.

The boom itself was purpose-built and features triple plated reinforcements to counter mechanical stress while in operation.

Powered by a 7.684L turbocharged, liquid cooled Hino diesel engine, the SK380XD produces 209kW of power and can perform through high temperatures found across most of Australia.

Kobelco says a bucket breakout force of 244kN ensures fast digging cycle times in addition to an arm tear-out force of 180kN.

All SK380XD units are factory equipped with bi-directional primary auxiliary hydraulics and a proportional hand-controlled tilt-rotate circuit and quick hitch piping.

Fuel-wise, the excavator has been made to be extremely efficient. The SK380XD boasts an average fuel consumption of under 20L/hr in typical Australian digging conditions while a boom to arm hydraulic regeneration system improves the efficiency while also boosting productivity.

Kobelco has introduced three work modes, which the operator can alternate between – heavy and standard work modes, and an eco-mode which delivers a 24 per cent reduction in fuel consumption.

With regard to lifting capabilities, the SK380XD’s 6m boom and 3.30m arm make for a digging depth of 7.56m and ground level reach of 11.25m. The machine, even when at full reach over the side, can withstand a safe working load of 5,020kg.

Inside the cab, Kobelco has improved visibility by expanding the window while still providing a quiet airtight work environment, which is free from dust and dampens exterior noise.

A heated and air-conditioned suspension seat protects against vibrations, while connectivity is provided via a 12V charging receptacle with auxiliary jack and Bluetooth stereo system.

Important information is displayed via a colour LCG display screen where operators can view data such as fuel consumption, maintenance intervals and the integrated rear-view camera.

Up to 10 pre-set attachment settings can be selected from the cabin to boost productivity.

All Kobelco XD Series excavators include an extended major component warranty of four years or 6,000 operating hours.

Kobelco’s Geoscan telematics system is also included to allow remote access of machine operational and maintenance data from any web-enabled device. Kobelco’s K-Assist is also provided as standard.
