Video review: Used Cat 311cu excavator

For the first of the TradeEarthmovers.com.au used equipment reviews, Ron Horner headed up to South East Queensland’s beautiful Scenic Rim to get his hands on a Caterpillar 311cu excavator owned by Susan Hadgkiss of Floating Excavators.

In this video, Ron puts the Cat 311cu through its paces moving rocks, clearing lantana and other scrub and grading dirt.

“I’m pretty impressed with it,” Ron says. “It’s as solid as a rock … there’s none of this lightweight bouncing around with this machine.”

As he says in his full Cat 311cu review, which you can read here, one of Ron’s favourite features of this earthmover is the blade, because it’s set far in front of the tracks.

“This means the operator can see all of the material being dragged into the front of the blade by the bucket,” he says. “This makes it easy to pick up the material, almost like a 4 in 1 attachment. This is great for securing and picking up loose material, rocks and trees.

“It also helps when you are pushing scrub or materials in bulk; it increases the volume of material you can push before running it back over the blade and under your tracks.”
