Video review: Cat 328D LCR piling excavator

The Cat 328D LCR bladed excavator is a long-carriage, close-radius machine more than worthy of review. But when it’s coupled with a Bay Shore LoDrill piling attachment? Well, that’s a no-brainer.

Found working on a shopping centre expansion in Warwick, Queensland, this Cat 328D really caught the attention of our reviewer Ron Horner. Determined to get a look at the machine, he managed to get himself inside the secure construction site.

“Now that machine in itself is worthy of the risks one has to take to get onto these sites, but when you have a perfectly suited Bay Shore LoDril attached to the boom for drilling the piles … well, that’s a bonus,” Ron says.

“The Cat 328D LCR weighs in at about the 33-tonne mark and runs the ever-so-efficient Cat C7 Acert 204hp (152kw) turbo-diesel engine. An ECM (electronic control module) acts as the brains of the engine’s control system and responds quickly to operating variables to maximise engine efficiency.”
