While testing out some other equipment for us, Ron Horner spotted a 4.3-tonne Furukawa F70 hydraulic hammer breaking granite boulders and had to take a look.

Excavators are useful things, made even more useful by the seemingly endless array of hydraulic attachments. Since their introduction, hydraulic hammers or rock breakers have consistently been one of the most popular attachments.

This 4.3 tonne monster is a little more than just your standard attachment. The hammer tip alone weighs more than 250kg and needs a minimum hydraulic flow of 250 litres per minute just to drive the thing.

“With an impact energy rating of 13,667 joules, the F70 hits harder than a Danny Green uppercut,” Ron says.

“The F70 has a dust intake prevention system that keeps its internal parts clean. This, along with Furukawa’s unique greasing system, which lubricates both the front head and front bushings, makes for improved longevity.”
