JCB launched the 70th Anniversary edition of its 3CX backhoe loader around 6 months ago, with the machines painted in retro 70s JCB livery. But does the performance match the paintjob?

Just seven of these limited edition 3CX backhoes were allocated to the Australian market, and we managed to get our hands on one at JCB’s Brisbane yard and reviewer Ron Horner was happy with what he saw.

"My first look at this classic remake just made my heart beat a bit faster," Ron says.

"The ’70s livery took me back to a time when backhoes were king and excavators were still struggling to make a mark on the Australian construction and earthmoving industry."

"These machines not only look fantastic in the retro livery but they are also great performers. The JCB EcoMax engines produce 109hp with a massive 516Nm of torque, and don’t require a diesel particulate filter or AdBlue."
