The Morooka MST-3000VD is a truly unique piece of equipment. So much more than just a dump truck, the all-terrain rubber-tracked beast is often brought in to finish jobs other machines can't.

Reviewer Ron Horner got to take the big Morooka for a spin while working on a very interesting, and very toxic, mine remediation project on NSW Mid North Coast. Here, the MST-3000VD was working to haul dangerous waste material across unstable mud into a sealed mono-cell constructed specifically for the task.

Ron found the Morooka intuitive and easy to use and that it could traverse almost any surface, no matter how unstable.

"The Morooka cabin is well and truly up my alley … based on that of a Cat excavator, it provides an excellent array of simple and easy-to-read and understand gauges, a simple tipping lever, counter-rotation hydrostatic drive levers, E-stops, aircon, big side mirrors, HEPA filter pressurised cabin, radio, etc," Ron says.

"The rubber tracks on the Morooka carrier are the result of over 50 years of joint development from Bridgestone and Morooka. They combine the characteristics of a tyred vehicle — creating speed, smooth ride, low ground pressure and high performance — and the excellent traction of a steel-tracked vehicle.

"This, coupled with the unique double rocker bottom track rollers and drive sprocket configuration, means that these little fellas can go almost anywhere in any conditions."
