Factory-direct model on track to deliver savings

Ken Kerr founded Track Pads Australia in 2000 with the goal of sourcing OEM quality components direct from the manufacturer, thus reducing costs to the end user

In 2000, after more than 25 years’ experience in the selection and importation of construction equipment, Ken Kerr established Track Pads Australia at Agnes Banks near Penrith, New South Wales.

Kerr had been involved with mini excavators (Takeuchi), light compactors (Mikasa) from Japan as well as asphalt pavers, road mills, stabilisers and rollers from Italy (Bitelli) and large rollers from Spain (Lebrero).

In providing replacement parts for the branded machines it became evident that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) were reliant on sub-component manufacturers to supply most of the major items necessary to complete a whole machine.

Rubber tyres, axles, hydraulics and engines, filters and other consumables most often came from specialised component manufacturers who sold to the conventional chain of distribution from the maker to the OEM, to the importer/stockist/wholesaler to the retail ‘store’ stockist to the ultimate end user.

This involved increasing transaction costs along the chain.

Track Pads Australia’s task was to source OEM quality components direct from the maker, thus reducing costs to the end user.

Everpads was established prior to 1960 as a manufacturer of pneumatic tyres then specialised in the provision of solid rubber tyres vulcanised onto steel rims. Typically this combination was supplied onto the front bogie wheels of asphalt pavers and onto forklift trucks.

Ultimately, a range of easily replaceable, heavy duty, rubber wear pads were developed for hydraulic excavators and ISO 9001 Quality accreditation granted.

Rubber, rather than plastic, provides a softening of shock load transfer to the chassis, less slippage on smooth surfaces and the ability to integrate internal reinforcement strips within the mould to prevent delamination.

Today Everpads employs more than 300 staff and distributes to 30 nations from the factory in Taiwan and warehouses in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Track Pads Australia purchase stock direct from the factory.

Over 12 years Australian customers have commented that the Everpad offers a wear life up to five times that of other readily available pads; and hourly costs less than half of others.

Similarly, a contractor working over angular abrasive rail track ballast with a 13-tonne excavator achieved five times the life compared with his ‘original’ pads.

Track Pads Australia stocks the Everpads heavy-duty bolt-on rubber pads for hydraulic excavators from 3-40 tonnes (300-600mm pad widths); and road mills/cold planers (200-300mm pad widths).
