Hugging the banks of the Danube River is the Austrian city of Linz, the nation’s third largest population centre and home to one of the nation’s leading universities.
It’s also home to Rubble Master – a pioneering company in on-site material recycling and today a major developer of compact crushers and scalping and incline screens.
Rubble Master founder and chief executive Gerald Hanisch says the company set out allow as many people as possible to build value through on-site recycling of natural rock and construction and demolition materials.
Initially the company set out to do this by developing and selling compact mobile crushers, but another focus was added – the production of its own mobile screening plants – in 2018.
And today some of those screens have made it Down Under, being distributed across Australia by Tricon Equipment.
Among the most exciting of these is our cover star – the RM 120X Crusher, offering a throughput of 350 tonnes of material per hour and weighing between 35 and 46 tonnes.
It comes equipped with either two or four hammers, each able to operate at three rotor speeds, with a feed opening of 1160mm by 820mm leading to an asymmetrical four cubic metre feed chamber equipped with two vibration motors.
Its closed material circuit houses a mesh screen with an integrated refeeding belt and an optional wind sifter complete with what Rubble Master says is the most versatile crushing box in the industry – while the optional RM ActiveGrid pre-screen helps increase material throughput by up to 30 per cent.
Powered by a 298 kW (400 horsepower) John Deere diesel motor, and transportable on tracks, the crusher offers maximum flexibility with a hybrid drive through the company’s RM Next technologies.
The machine can fold to a transport width of 3m, measuring 16.4m long and 3.2m high when in this position. It is also covered by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Tricon also imports two smaller crushers, the RM90GO!, which has a 200 t/h throughput and weighs about 23.6 tonnes; and the larger RM 100GO!, with a 250t/h throughput and weighing 29 tonnes.

Hybrid vigour
Rubble Master has long understood the challenges faced by classic diesel-hydraulic systems, leading it to develop diesel-electric and all-electric machines from the very beginning.
The company says its crushers and screens run on low fuel and energy consumption whether using a diesel direct drive with electric auxiliary drives, a purely electric or a hybrid system.
“If the total costs over the operating time of the machine are taken into consideration, customers quickly realise that these systems are often more cost-effective than hydraulically operated machines after just three years, or even sooner,” Rubble Master says.
“In addition, efficiency is increased with the hybrid drive. Power peaks are handled on-demand with the help of the electric motor’s instant torque, while the diesel engine runs at a constant speed.”
“Even RM hybrid systems that run 100 per cent on diesel save up to 60 per cent of annual operating costs compared to a diesel-hydraulic machine.”
All crushers in the Rubble Master range are designed to be easy to use, even without in-depth technical knowledge and despite the new features.
Operating the crushers involves only a few buttons and a built-in screen is only used to display information – a control concept developed in collaboration with customers around the world, the company says.
“With the comprehensive operator-machine interface, the operator no longer has to enter the danger zone while operating the machine and can see both the status and current utilisation of the crusher from the excavator cab,” it says.
“The optimal utilisation of [Rubble Master] machines combined with job-specific equipment options and real-time analysis optimises material throughput, reduces running costs and as a result increases turnover.”
In the future, Rubble Master plans to go one step further by implementing a machine-to- machine communication system connecting crushers and screens. In addition, it is possible to supply power to the screen from the crusher.
Sensational Screens
The tracked coarse material screening plants in Rubble Master’s HS Series are durable, robust and high-performance machines built to handle the heavy duty jobs.
Whether it is blasted rock or bulky demolition material, the screens help reduce materials handling and deliver clean end products thanks to their enormous throughput.
Able to be used for anything from construction and demolition waste through to concrete, asphalt, natural stone, glass, earth and woodchips, the HS series of screens can be used in a wide range of applications.
The screens on the scalper series are designed to handle the heaviest applications in the harshest conditions – whether it is heavy rock or bulky construction and demolition material.
Tricon currently imports the two larger models from Rubble Masters HS Series – the HS7500M, which has a screen surface measuring 4.88m by 1.52m; and the HS11000M, which has a screen measuring 6.1m by 1.8m.
Both models have a feed hopper volume of 8.7 cubic metres and a feed hopper belt width of 1400mm.
They also come with medium and fine material belts, a high power screenbox and wide access engine compartment doors – providing easy access for service and maintenance of engines and hydraulics.
