As we reported after the ShoulderMaster’s official launch in October last year, with the ShoulderMaster the width of any road can be widened from 0.5m up to 1.5m in one pass.

The unit, which was developed by Wauchope, NSW-based road maintenance contracting company Stabilcorp and is being manufactured by Total Manufacturing Services in Newcastle, has a depth control of between 25mm to 150mm that can be used to deliver different layers to the excavated area under repair.

Disruptions to traffic and mess is minimised as only the damaged area of road is excavated and the ShoulderMaster provides a neat edge and smooth surface in one pass.

A hydraulic tilt function allows for materials to be placed on grades ranging from 0.5 percent to about 5 percent with all functions remotely controlled from beyond the exclusion zone, improving safety for workers on foot.

Stabilcorp says that the ShoulderMaster is up to 67 percent more cost effective compared to traditional methods,  completing most jobs in a third of the time by laying on average 250m of road shoulder repairs per hour, at 1m wide by 150mm deep.

In December, the ShoulderMaster was delivering verge material into an excavation of 450mm depth with an average 12-tonne  truck turnover of four minutes on the east coast’s Pacific Highway (Kempsey to Kundabung) extension.

TRS, which was established in early 2013, offers a full range of excavator and skid steer attachments and specialty products for rockbreaking, demolition, trenching, tunnelling, crushing, rock profiling, road milling and stabilising.
