Volvo paves the way with new road construction equipment

Volvo’s new P7000 series road pavers have arrived in Australia via local distributor-Western Australia based CJD Equipment.

The pavers continue prominent road paving equipment manufacturer Blaw-Knox’s legacy, which Volvo acquired several years ago.

The new series features two models – the P7110 tracked model and the P7170 wheeled model which Volvo says has been constructed and configured using modern manufacturing facilities and strict quality control inspections.

Volvo has applied tried and tested designs onto the pavers such as its range of front and rear mounted screed combinations. Optional extensions for extended paving widths can be added quickly and efficiently with Volvo’s quick coupling system.

A large 30kW tractor mounted generator activates the heating elements for a consistent overall heating of the screed plates without dead spots or the loss of engine power.

With the push of a button, two stage tunnels can be hydraulically extended to confine and control material, ensuring an even head of material in front of the screed for the best possible mat quality.

Volvo has included its unique, low profile, single level platform into the operator space design for ease of movement, safety and low operating noise levels.

The design allows for temporary storage of belongings and tools including powerful work-lighting packages for daytime and night paving operations giving that all important  supreme line of sight over the entire paving process.

Both the P7170 and P7110 provide the paving crew unobstructed views of the material from the delivery vehicle, conveyor system, auger channel, outer end gates and behind the screed.

Two control consoles, located on the left and right side of the operator platform can rotate and tilt to align with the adjustable seats for comfort, enhanced visibility and productive operation.

The seats can be extended out beyond the edge of the paver for unobstructed views to the hydraulically powered two stage auger tunnels and large capacity hopper. This enables the operator to monitor the task at hand more closely from different angles for the best outcome.

Both pavers are powered by a fuel efficient tier IV Volvo D8 engine rated at 179 kW (240hp) that features a diesel particulate filter (DPF) for lower engine emissions.

The new series is fully supported by CJD Equipment’s dealers and service network across Australia. Find out more on CJD Equipment’s website.
