The Australian Government has committed $125.5 million to the jointly funded project, with the Queensland Government contributing $50.5 million
Works have gotten underway on the $176 million Linkfield Road Overpass upgrade at Bald Hills in Brisbane’s outer north, which will help to reduce congestion, improve safety and freight access and boost opportunities for active transport use.
When completed, the overpass clearance height will be increased from 4.7m to 6m and Linkfield Road will be upgraded to four lanes between the Gympie Road and Lacey Road intersections.
The project design also includes a new separated pathway for pedestrians, riders and other users, plus a new on-road cycle lane for bike riders.
Planning of the project began with service providers and the Department of Transport and Main Roads after the state government announced the release of initial funding to support the start of onsite activities in May.
The Australian Government has committed $125.5 million to the jointly funded project, with the Queensland Government contributing $50.5 million.
“The Linkfield Road Overpass is an important congestion-busting project for our community that I’ve fought hard to secure,” says Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd.
“I know residents will be excited to see diggers on site as the first significant step in upgrading the Linkfield Road Overpass to four lanes.
“The Pine Rivers community wants transport solutions that matter for reducing congestion and that’s exactly what the Miles Government is delivering.”
